In commemoration of the African Union 2026 Pan African Women’s Day, the WOMENS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND LEADERSHIP [WSBL] is proud to announce Dr. Mrs. Victoria Samson, Founder and Group Managing Director of BOVAS AND COMPANY LIMITED — fondly known as “MAMA BOVAS” — as WSBL’s Pan African Woman of the Year 2026.

This recognition celebrates a living case study in African enterprise: a woman who turned the most humble beginnings into a continental champion through integrity, excellence, and service.

From House Help to Oil Magnate to a University Chancellor : A Case Study in Resilience, Integrity and Human-Centered Entrepreneurship

WHY DR. MRS VICTORIA SAMSON
Dr. Mrs. Victoria Samson’s journey embodies the AU’s PAWO 2026 theme of women’s leadership. She began life in deep humility as a house help at the age of 6years, doing menial jobs to survive. Refusing to be limited by her start, she sponsored herself through school, working to pay her fees while studying. Her entry into energy was built on trust not capital. She started as a dealer to Texaco in 1980 with her Husband, Architect Samson . She became the first Nigerian to win the Texaco LAWA Best Dealer Award in 1990.
She earned credibility by showing up, keeping her word, and protecting the customer. From that foundation of service, she built the BOVAS Group. What began as one woman’s dream has grown into one of Nigeria’s most respected indigenous downstream oil and gas companies, creating jobs, employing thousands and serving millions.

Dr. Mrs. Victoria Samson story is now used as a classical academic case study and blueprint for MSME growth because of 3 things:
1. Product Integrity “One Liter is One Liter” In an industry with trust issues. Accuracy and transparency are HER non negotiable culture and policy .
2. Excellence in Experience BOVAS retail outlets are benchmarked for cleanliness, safety, and customer care.

As WSBL’s Pan African Woman of the Year 2026, Dr. Samson joins women building Africa’s future -one business, one job, one community at a time. Her story won 95% of our faculty votes for the school’s classical case studies hence we have adopted her story as part of our academic case study for our strategic leadership and entrepreneurship diets
